The new covered porch doubles as a sitting area for taking in sunsets

THE MADORE RESIDENCE

The interesting thing about the home Valerie and Glen Madore recently purchased in Dundas, Ontario was the ‘front’ entrance located at the rear of the house. This made sense when the original structure was oriented to the south and faced the original York Rd in the early 1900s, but times had changed and the house now had its back to its current street address to the north. An existing unheated breezeway seemed the perfect place to create a new entrance lobby, with views through to the mature Red and White Oaks on one side, and a new covered porch facing the functional street to the northwest. By carefully removing and reworking the roof structure, the link now reads as the true ‘front door’ welcoming the owners and their guests with light, views and connectivity to the existing structures on both sides.
