62 Parkside Redevelopment
When theres nowhere to grow out…sometimes the best solution is to grow ‘up’. With a 3 year old daughter and another baby on the way, Rachel and Daniel took the bold decision to add an entire second floor to their circa 1940s 1 storey raised bungalow in Hamilton’s Westdale neighbourhood. In addition to the quiet, walking friendly streets the location offered views of a large urban greenspace-Churchill Park-across the street to the west, with the deciduous trees of the Cootes Paradise estuary rising in the distance. An existing main level bedroom was used to place a new stair up to three new bedrooms plus bath on a full second floor. Building up also allowed us to take advantage of another feature; natural lighting which is now available in abdundance from all 4 directions, and which has been beautifully captured by photographer Luca Simpson in the photos below. Together, these aspects make the home feel larger than it actually is, while still providing a balance of community and privacy as the family grows in the years ahead.
